Renita Young (RY): MetaBank is becoming Pathward, and bank President Anthony Sharett says the new name personifies who they are, their clients and their goal of financial inclusion.
Anthony Sharett (AS): Our purpose is to power financial inclusion for all, to help the underbanked and the underserved, and to provide people with access to dollars and give them a path forward.
RY: You do this with the unbanked population. How?
AS: Through our Payments business, we provide those who may not have traditional checking accounts, savings accounts with traditional banks, with access to dollars through our prepaid cards.
We also provide people with consumer lending capabilities and access to cash in a way that does not increase the cycle of debt.
RY: Pathward also provides lending to small and medium-sized businesses and regularly partners with likeminded non-profits. I’m Bloomberg’s Renita Young, on the Black Business Beat.
